About dksa

Dejan Kravic Skills Academy (DKSA) is dedicated to the continual growth of youth basketball players with a focus on skill development in a fun learning environment. DKSA provides summer camps tailored towards boys and girls of various skill levels between the ages of 8-15. The Academy was founded in 2017 by Dejan Kravic and Srdjan Pejicic. Our Academy is committed to developing youth athletes by way of focusing on skill development, work ethic, and teamwork.

how it started

Above all, we wanted to create a program that would provide youth with a safe environment to showcase their skills, have fun, and develop into both a better basketball player and person. We want to provide a space where children can put their energy and focus into something positive, a space where they can build healthy relationships with themselves, basketball, and each other. Our camp offers something unique in that our campers get the opportunity to learn from professional athletes who have played basketball at an elite level in Canada, America, and Europe. It is important for us to emphasize that while focusing on a sport is great, succeeding academically is equally as important. In fact, many of the skills we learn from playing sports, such as work ethic, dedication, punctuality and responsibility, are skills that we need in many realms of our life such as at school, in our relationships, and throughout our work life.

Growing up in London, Ontario, the opportunities to learn and get better at basketball were not in abundance for Dejan. Dejan was successful mostly through the support of his family, as well as developing a strong work ethic at a young age. He had to find his inner motivation to be the best he could be, and his love for the game was the driving force for his success.

"I want to be able to give back to the community. London Ontario is where I grew up, where I played and fell in love with basketball, where I built my basketball foundation. I want to use my skill set to help other kids and I want to do it in the city that helped shape who I am today. I want to be the guidance that helps kids understand how important it is to not place limits on themselves and on how far they can go. I want them to know that any goal that they set for themselves, sport related or not, they can achieve with the right mindset and work ethic. These are the kind of things that gives our camp purpose, these are the things we want to instil in our campers each and every year to make for a memorable experience." - Dejan Kravic

LIVE: We want you to have fun. Be present and make the most out of every moment and opportunity that presents itself. Exercise, eat healthy, laugh, and surround yourself with positive people who bring out the very best in you.

LEARN: We want you to learn. To learn different skills and fundamentals of basketball such as shooting, dribbling, rebounding, passing, defending, etc. To learn about sportsmanship, fair play, respect for each other, and how to be a good teammate. To learn to build good habits and have a good attitude. To learn, it is important to listen. Listen and take constructive criticism from your camp counsellors, parents, teachers, coaches and mentors.

HOOP: We want you to play ball! You ultimately chose to attend this camp because you love basketball and you are here for that reason. Go hard in every drill, get better each day, and enjoy the game you love.

"I have been involved with many basketball camps and circuits throughout the world, but I have never been so passionate about a program that builds up the community quite like this one does. When Dejan thought of building something that gave back to his community, I was fully on-board. I always wanted to be part of something that could bring together all kinds of people for the purpose of their love for basketball. We made sure that we focused on the mental growth as well as the physical growth of each player. This means making sure everyone is engaged and enjoying what they are doing. We spent countless hours making a detailed program that will challenge the players in various fields. 2018 is a huge year for us. We are looking to expand our camps into different age groups, as well as help everyone fall in love with basketball just like we did when we were growing up. #LiveLearnHoop". - Srdjan Pejicic

our vision

Our vision for the Academy is to provide an opportunity for all youth, regardless of socioeconomic status, to come together and play basketball. We strive to use our past experiences working and volunteering with various camps and programs around the world to incorporate the best ideas and practices to create the best camp possible.

future plans

Our hope for the future is to continue to grow and reach more kids who we can impact in a positive way and help them to achieve their goals. We have plans to expand our camps' age groups, as well as form new innovative camps which will cater to various skill levels. Our goal for the future is to expand throughout Ontario and become a well known Academy around the province.

We hope to utilize the global connections we have made over the years to provide even better resources for our campers. For example, sending our local campers to camps in other countries where they can continue to develop their skills by connecting with other professionals and peers who share the same passion for basketball as they do.
